This book describes the advent and history of music in the United
States. It describes the varied styles of music. The performers, their
recorded repertoire, and the variety of genres of American music such as the
Blues, Rock and Roll and Country. From the arrival of early colonists who
brought choirs, musical notation, and later, broadsides. The arrival of West
Africans who gave new impetus to the music, with their variety of
instruments, drums, and string instruments as well as call-and-response'
vocals. Later the mix of Cajun and Creole music from Louisiana. Early
American popular music , such as the advent of Ragtime and the Minstrel era,
early Jazz music. Rural blues and urban jazz, which all gave impetus to the
creation of American popular music. Appalachian roots of Country music and
Post-War Rock and Roll are also described until recent times.
